     Happy last week of February and first week of March!

This week marks the beginning of one of our most important liturgical seasons as Catholics; Lent.  As a class, we have been listening to stories about the miracles Jesus performed. Ask your child which ones we have already learned about and see if your child can retell the miracle.  Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday and we will be celebrating Mass in our school gym at 1:30 pm.  All are welcome to attend!


Upcoming Math Test:  Our end of the unit math test in Patterns will be Thursday, March 2.  I will send home the math duo tangs for review Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

         Beginning Monday, (tomorrow) please sign your child's agenda EVERY DAY.  I will be checking agendas every morning and signing it as well.  This will ensure that all of the notes that I write to you and you write to me will be read in a timely fashion.  Also, it will allow you to see if your child has written the weekly homework as well as their WOW words down at the beginning of the week. The Grade 2s are beginning a unit in Social Studies on Family Heritage and Traditions / Celebrations and need your parent help!  Please take some time this week to discuss and complete a questionnaire in your child's green Social Studies duo tang.  I would like this to be done by Thursday morning if possible so that we can begin our unit.

This week....

Homework:  Reading Response: 
Gr. 3 - Last week, the grade 3s discussed this reading response Wayne Gretzky in great detail. We looked at all kinds of responses some level 1s, 2s, 3s and 4s and discussed why each of those responses earned that particular level.  By the end of the week, grade threes said they knew exactly what to do in their own writing to bump up the level they received.  So, this week,  I am sending home the same reading response from last week.  The homework is to bump up the level they received by adding more information IN RED PEN.  There is no point in moving on to a new Reading Response if students are not reflecting critically on how to make improvements in their answers. Don't erase, just add information in red pen. I look forward to reading new and improved answers on Friday!

Gr. 2 - A new reading response will be sent home this week. Please parents, have your child read the story aloud to you and go over the multiple choice questions with your child.  Many students need to slow down and read ALL of the choices before selecting his/her answer.  Marks were not where I feel they should be...Also, those students who left pages incomplete received a zero.

Valentine's Day:  If you plan to send in Valentine cards, please note that we have 21 students.  A list of names will not be sent home with each child, instead, number the Valentine's as each student has been assigned a number for the year.  That way, no one will be missed.  Also, our school is trying to stay away from sugary treats in support of our Healthy Living goals, so if you can, try to avoid treats that might fall into the 'Other' category of our four food groups!  A note might be the best kind of Valentine!

Language Quiz - Friday, we will have a language quiz on Nouns and Plurals of Nouns.  Duo tangs will be sent home for review Wednesday and Thursday.
